Bend it like Beckham
Yeah I changed my avatar again… it’s still David Beckham, but isn’t it cool? He’s all smiley faced, just like me. Last night I went back to bed after writing the below post and I did not binge or snack or anything. Just some water and that Coke Zero.
So this morning I was in a good mood and woke up a little early and the scale says I am now “145″ pounds. That is only 5 pounds away from my goal. I do not expect to have an 8 pound loss this week. So I am setting a modest goal of 2 more pounds… by next Sunday I will be 143 pounds. And my reward for losing two pounds and CONTINUING my “no-binge / no nite snacking” streak (which is now officially on DAY SEVEN, HURRAY!) will be a dual magazine subscription to DETAILS and GQ. On one hand, I enjoy these two mags a lot. On the other, they do the same thing to my psyche that I’m sure women’s magazines do to women.
I see the ultra-thin dudes in there and I’m convinced that’s what I have to look like. I know a lot of women have the same issues. The good thing is, with me… if I diet and exercise I can come pretty close. I can’t get all big and huge like Arnold or Sly Stallone but I do a good job of being lean and having abs and everything.
But it has certainly taken work. I’m never gonna sit here and say “Oh I don’t diet. I don’t workout.”
What bullcrap. I hate it when celebrities say that. They are lying their ass off. They do “diet”. Just see Dr. Marc’s current Blog post about Mel B. “Scary Spice”. The stars eat right and they exercise. And what that can’t accomplish they make up for with makeup and hair teams and then airbrushing.
Nobody’s perfect. That’s why it helps to have other areas of focus. Yes, it is nice when I have abs and a tan and I can fit into size 30 jeans… but I also have planes to fix and a family to take care of.
I did reward myself with the new Britney album. I’m very into dance music. Believe me, I take a lot of flak for it but I’m unapologetic about it. I love Rihanna and Ciara and Madonna and all that uber-flaming “gay” dance music.
So far I’m on the 4th or 5th song and it is really really good. I downloaded it from iTunes, which has the most complicated user interface, I swear. That’s why I’ll never switch to Apple from Microsoft. I can fix computer systems on multi-million dollar warplanes but I can’t master iTunes.
Go figure.
Time for some BlogSurfing.

Ok. No flack here about Britney. You just rarely hear of a guy especially one so famous as yourself, Becks, being into Brit. I love Brit too and only wish her the best. She is after all a Southern girl too.
Great news on the loss. I understand men and body issues because dh was once a former chubby and now he is size 34 and still thinks he’s fat. He is not.
Best wishes for a great week.
Hey! Love Britney! Haha… but yeah, as for the part about “not bulking up like Arnold, but being able to get nice abs and tone” I know 1 girl who finds that big, body builder physique attractive. You sound WAYY more the norm of hot. Anyways, congrats on the loss and the magazine subscription reward is a good idea. Setting goals is such a smart way to do it. Keep up the good work…..ps- itunes is def a pain in the butt to figure out.
The ironic thing is that, in my experience, women aren’t nearly as hung up on appearance as men. It also get’s better with age. The older you get, the less people actually care, at least for men. The important thing is confidence.
During the Miami Vice days all of these guys started dressing up like Don Johnson. Loafers w/o socks and white suits w/ t-shirts. None of them looked like Don Johnson. It was actually a pretty terrible look on most of the guys I saw trying it. It made them feel better and with all of that confidence they cleaned up. Well, some of them. (The guys doing it 5 years later were just sad.)
Unless your running around the neighborhood in the buff, it eventually just comes down to how you feel about yourself. In the end, you just gotta do it for yourself.
If you are running around the neighborhood in the buff… It’s probably not that 5 pounds their looking at!
When you mentioned celebrities, Star Jones came to my mind. I don’t really think bad of someone for having weight loss surgery because a person has to do what they have to do and what’s right for them. But, when she tried to hide the fact and say pilates or yoga was the reason for her weight loss, well that got me going. If your gonna lie, then at least have the photographers take pictures of you jogging for pete’s sake or speed walking just once. Or leaving a yoga class.
Anyway, I have a love/hate thing with Brit Brit. But, I do have to say I love her new song “Give Me More”. Critics were on the fence about it but I loved it. Not the video though. Congrats again on the no binging streak. You are doing awesome.
Right on the money Matt. That’s the problem with the girly magazines, but it’s a catch 22 like you said, on the one hand it gives us something to aspire too and on the other, it makes us feel inadequate!! The best thing we can do is develop a healthy sense of self, so we can be happy in our own skin!
Congrats on being so close to your goal!! You rock! Also, I can relate to your comments about iTunes, I agree, for being an Apple product, is the least user-friendly thing in the world…when did Apple go from being user-friendly to being so damn complicated? Wasn’t their user-friendly abilities what made Apple famous? God figure!
Anyhow, like I said, congrats for being so close to goal and for writing this very eloquent blog–you rock!
P.S. Yes, I have to agree, your taste of music makes us wonder–hehehe!! KIDDING of course!!
Good for you no binging ! Just remind yourself that you don’t have to be perfect just healthy !Keep up the good work you’re doing great ! Kimmi
