CatchinG Up With Matt

Well, as many of you know, I’ve moved into my new house. We are still unpacking everything and organizing, but I am very happy to be a home-owner. My son is still enjoying DayCare, although we are thinking of moving him to a closer one. And my wife wants to go back to college full-time in the New year.

We had a wonderful time at the AF Ball.

I am considering giving up weight lifting in favor of a three times a week Yoga practice. I’ve been considering this for a while now. I want to experiment and see if yoga will help my back and spine feel better. I have 3 different Yoga DVDs right now, the P90X one, one by Rodney Yee and one by Shiva Rea called Yoga Shatki.

I think tomorrow morning I will do the Rodney Yee one since it is only an hour. I will let you know. My concern is that I don’t want to do anything to make my back and shoulders hurt worse. But what if, by doing Ashtanga Yoga three times per week it actually helps? I still want to do the Leslie Sansone walking DVDs just because I love them so much. And the Gazelle…

What about you guys? Any really positive feedback about yoga? I want to do something that will make me strong and flexible but doesn’t stress my joints the way weight-lifting does. We’ll give it a shot tomorrow…

So glad to hear you are back with us. The yoga stretches are all I can do, but they really help my joints. Take care, and don’t do anything radical until you see how things are going. Hate to have to call 911 to get you untangled. Good night, Marge

I had lunch with 2 personal trainers today - one is mine, the other is a friend of ours. And Megan just passed a Pilates test to move to the next level of instruction - I don’t know what it all entails but she told me that Pilates is all about helping people achieve their fitness goals PAINFREE. Maybe that’s something to consider too? I’ve taken a yoga-pilates fusion class at my gym and I have dvds for both but I don’t honestly do much of it. I need to do more. I’m concerned about flexibility. But currently I’m more concerned about my remaining 217 miles so that’s my focus! I’m so glad you’re back! Ellen

Glad to see you back Matt. Wow a new home how exciting. I never tried yoga so I can’t comment on that. I would guess it would hurt alot less than lifting weights. Enjoy your new home.

Welcome back and let us know if yoga works for you.

I see you tailor your workouts to avoid further injuring your back and I think it’s great.

Have you thought about working with a sport medicine doctor? They can evaluate your workouts, your limitations, and come up with a good program.

Have a wonderful Saturday in your new home,

    Tatiana
